Wapello, Iowa, Aug. 2 - Mrs. R. G. Hawkins, the beloved wife of the editor of the Wapello republican, died at 6:40 Wednesday evening, in the Burlington hospital at Burlington after a short illness. Mrs. Hawkins underwent a serious operation Monday morning which she stood well and here recovery was confidently expected, but Tuesday afternoon she became weaker and was unable to rally. Mrs. Hawkins' maiden name was Ava Nella Kinkead, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Kinkead, who died several years ago. She was born near Morning Sun, Iowa in 1868 and was married to Mr. Hawkins in 1891. She is survived by her husband and two children, Blaine and June, who were with her when the end a came. She also leaves one brother and two sisters, Sam Kinkead, of Tratter, Iowa and Mrs. J. H. Mehaffy, of Curden, Iowa. Mrs. Hawkins was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church. The funeral will probably be held Friday afternoon from the home in Wapello.
