A. C. Forbes was born, February 27, 1851, in Oakland township, Louisa county, Iowa. He was the third son of Francis and Millie Forbes. He spent his boyhood with his parents on a farm in Oakland known as the Forbes homestead where Chas. Forbes and family now reside. He was united in marriage to Sarah Hill in Iowa City, April 4, 1872, she being a daughter of the deceased Daniel and Matilda Hill. After their marriage they moved on a farm in Johnson county living there one year afterwards moving on the farm where he died.

To this union eight children were born, six sons and two daughters. Three of the children having preceded him in death, Eva at the age of two years, Lawrence at the age of five and Glenn the youngest of the family at two and one half years. The remaining children along with the wife and mother to mourn his departure are: Fred E. of Tracy, Minnesota, Nancy H. at home, Clarence C. Mrs. Besise Wall, wife of Jay Wall and Verna all married and living on farms in Oakland township. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Rife and Mrs. Tillie Morse of Lone Tree and three brothers, Fay of Lone Tree, Coll of Columbus Junction and Wm. of Muscatine. Also ten grandchildren. His last illness was of two weeks which time he was confined to his room and bed. The death messenger came in the quiet of the evening on Wednesday, June 28th at 9:30. His funeral was conducted Friday in the Swank church by the Rev. Phillips, M. E. minister of Lettsville. After the last sad rites he was tenderly laid to rest in the beautiful Swank cemetery.
