Leslie, thirteen year old son of Mr. an Mrs. B.L. Marshall, of Wapello, was drowned at noon Friday in what is known as the round hole, just north of that city limits on the old mill race, where it is crossed by the Muscatine North & South railway. The last, in company with his sister and three or four other children had been spending the forenoon at the place fishing. In the water was a large bridge timber and on this Leslie was playing when it turned with him and he was thrown into the water and drowned, his small companions being unable to assist him. The round hole is about forty feet across and the water is about twenty feet deep. One little companion rushed to the nearest residence and gave the alarm and soon a large number of Wapello citizens were on the scene, but the body was not located for about an hour.

Two doctors were on the scene, but every effort to resuscitate was futile and he was taken to the home of his parents. The father of the lad, who has been in the employ of the People's Gas & Electric Co. at Mediapolis, was spending the day at one of the lakes across the river fishing. He arrived home just about the time the body of his son was found. Deceased is mourned by his parents, two sisters, Goldie and Lela and one brother, Ronald and a large number of relatives. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock from the home. Interment in Wapello cemetery.
