The sudden death of Hugh E. Davis, a resident of the Welsh Neighborhood, came as a terrible shock to the entire community last Saturday morning. Mr. Davis planned to attend the track meet at Washington and had made preparations to go. A short time before he planned to start he walked across the road to where his farm hand was plowing and was standing by the fence telling him about some seed corn he had been testing when without a moment's warning he fell over dead.

Mr. Davis was one of the leaders of the community. He was a stockholder in both the First Savings bank and the People's Savings bank of Crawfordsville and was recently elected a member of the Board of Education. He was a member of the Salem Welsh church and was a true, devoted Christian man taking a deep interest in the spiritual welfare and development of the church.

Hugh E. Davis was born in Wales, March 20, 1868 and died Saturday morning, April 22, 1916. His parents were Abednego and Ann Davis and at the age of two years he came with them to America and located at Racine, Wisconsin. Six years later they moved to Iowa. Mr. Davis was married December 2, 1896, to Miss Margaret Davis. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Marie and little son Harlan Edward, and two brothers David P. Davis, of San Pedro, California and Isaac Davis, of Los Angeles, California and one sister Mrs. Harry Davis, of Crawfordsville. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Salem church.
