W. S. Green, father of J. A. Green, of this city, died at his home near Gladwin, Sunday, April 16th, after an illness of several weeks. William Shelton Green was born in Monroe county, Tennessee, November 22, 1847. He came to Iowa with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Madison Green in 1851 and settled with them on a farm south of Columbus Junction. He has made this county his home ever since. In 1871 he was married to Miss Margaret Foster who with the following children survive to mourn his death. The children are: Mrs. Florence Steele, Mrs. Verna Lantz, Mrs. Sarah Whitlock and Mrs. Grace Mincer, of Riverside, J. A. Green, of Columbus Junction; Matt Green, of Cotter; Henry Green, of Gladwin and Robert and Glenn at home. One brother, James E. Green and two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Cline, of Lone Tree, and Mrs. Mary Luckey, of Columbus, Kansas also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at his home near Gladwin conducted by Rev. T. B. DeVore. Interment in the Foster cemetery.
