Mrs. George Berkshire. Amanda Jane Turner was born in Pike county, Ohio, September 29, 1862 and died near Conesville, Iowa, April 14, 1916 being 53 years 6 months and 15 days old. She was married to George C. Berkshire, April 17, 1881, in Lafayette, Ohio, coming to Iowa in the fall of 1888, having resided in Louisa and Henry counties except one year in Pennsylvania. To this union seven children were born, who with the husband survive except one son who died in infancy. The children are: N. C. Berkshire, near Hamburg, Iowa; Mrs. B. L. Paxson, of Cairo; Mrs. Anna Morse, of Lone Tree; Mrs. Earl Swailes, of Crawfordsville; Earl G. Berkshire of Ainsworth; and Guy T. Berkshire of Columbus Junction. She leaves seven grandchildren also three sisters and two brothers all living in Ohio besides a host of friends. Two sons and two daughters and one brother with the husband were at her bedside when she passed away.

Mrs. Berkshire talked repeatedly the last few days of her life of meeting her Savior. This is such a comforting thought in the heart of her loved ones. She joined the M. E. church at Prairie Chapel some twenty years ago and a few years hence was transferred to Conesville M. E. church. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at the M. E. church of Conesville conducted by Rev. H. E. Butler of Nichols. Interment in Columbus City cemetery.
