Eli Edgington, a resident of Iowa for eighty years most of which time was lived in Louisa county, died at the county farm, Tuesday evening, April 11, 1916 at 8:30 o'clock, having suffered a paralytic stroke several days ago. Mr. Edgington was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, September 4, 1833 and came to Louisa county in 1836. He was married September 11, 1863, to Miss Mary Ellen Gulick, and to them one son was born, John Merrick, of near Cairo. His mother died when he was three days old and he was adopted by the Merrick family. January 15, 1874, Mr. Edgington was again married to Miss Eliza Jane Spafford and to them two children were born, who also survive, Mrs. Geo Breneman, of this city and Chet Edgington, of near Fredonia. Mrs. Edgington died July 18, 1883. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at the Pleasant Grove Bethel church conducted by Elder Joe Hammond, of Wapello. Interment in the Indian Creek cemetery.
