J. C. Morris, a prominent and very esteemed resident of the Welsh Neighborhood near Cotter, died Monday April 10, 1916, after an illness of several years. About two months ago he went to the Methodist hospital at Des Moines for treatment and for several weeks after returning home he seemed to have been greatly benefited but disease returned. James C. Morris was born in Carmarthean, South Wales, March 7, 1861. He came to America in November 1880, locating at Dawn, Missouri where he remained four years. He then returned to Wales, staying there about a year and one-half when he again returned to America and located at Hiawatha, Kansas. On the 11th of February 1891, he was married to Miss Emma Davis. They then moved to Dawn, Missouri, where they made their home for nine years, returning then to Cotter and locating on a farm which has been their home the past sixteen years.

At the age of fourteen he united with the Calvinistic Methodist church of Wales and remained a faithful follower of his Savior. For a number of years he has been an elder in the Bethel church at Cotter and has always taken an active part in its welfare. He is survived by his wife and five children, Catherine, Ralph, Albert, Hugh and Una. Four sisters and three brothers also survive to mourn his death. The sisters are: Mrs. John Rees, of Lanelly and Mrs. David Jones, of Swansea and Mrs William James of Carmarthean, all of South Wales and Mrs. Robert Peters, of Bangor, Saskatchewan, Canada. the brothers are: Rev. Wm. Morris, of Bangor, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Thomas and John Morris, of Wales.
