He felt a call to the ministry, by the way seemed to be closed at that time. He accepted a call to the Barbrerton, Ohio, charge, which he served for ten years and three months. He accepted the call to the charge at Bascon, Ohio and was pastor there three years. Throughout his ministry he has been interested in the work of the church of the middle west, and being challenged for the work in Conesville - Columbus Junction field, he accepted this call in September 1912.

November 10, 1915, he was operated upon at Iowa City for gall stones. Another operation being necessary, he set his house in order and on March the 28 again submitted to a surgical operation, but was not able to stand the operative shock. He was married to Miss Emma Horner, May 27, 1890. One son, Emerson DeWitte Ewing, is the result of this union. He is now a student in Central Theological Seminary of the Reformed church, at Dayton, Ohio. His life was short; only 52 years since his birth and 21 years since he entered the ministry.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the church of which he had been pastor for three and one half years conducted by Rev. J. N. Nally, assisted by the Rev.
