page 1Mrs. Rhoda A. Chapman died at her home in Fredonia, Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 1916, after an illness of several months. Rhoda A. Spurgeon was born in Morgan county, Ohio, March 6, 1833. Her parents were Jeremiah and Nancy (Walls) Spurgeon. She came to Iowa at an early age and here in this county, March 12, 1857, she was united in marriage to Daniel A. Chapman and settled with him on a farm in Concord township. Mrs. Chapman was a resident of Iowa for over fifty years and she was greatly admired by all who knew her. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Flora Lowe, of Fredonia and two grandchildren, Miss Vinnie Lowe and Nelson Lowe and also many nephews and nieces besides a host of friends. Her husband preceded her in death a number of years ago. Funeral services were held at the home in Fredonia Friday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. C. L. Wilson, of Columbus City. Interment in the Fredonia cemetery.
