Mrs. Mary Martin Swailes, a former resident of Columbus Junction, died Sunday afternoon at the county farm near Wapello. Mrs. Swailes was born December 19, 1832 and at the time of her death she was past 83 years of age. She was first married to Samuel Martin who passed away a number of years ago. One son, Lewis Martin, survives. Afterward she was married to William Swailes, who died in this city several years ago. Mrs. Swailes united with the Methodist Episcopal church in this city in 1888 under the pastorate of Rev. J. W. Potter. The remains were brought to this city Monday afternoon and taken to the undertaking rooms of R. H. Malin. Tuesday morning they were taken to the Methodist church where funeral services were held at 11 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
