Mrs. Margaret A. Johnston, who was greatly esteemed and loved by all who knew her, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. G. Robertson, at Morning Sun, Sunday, December 5, 1915, following an illness of only a few weeks. Margaret A. McConnell was born in Tennessee, March 15, 1840. At the age of three years she came to Louisa county with her parents and cast her lot with them with the pioneer settlers of this county. Here she grew to womanhood, her father settling on a farm east of Columbus City. On the 25th of September 1865 she was united in marriage to Thomas Jefferson Johnston and to them were born four children. The father and husband passed away, November 21, 1894 and one son, Newton, a few years later.

The surviving children are: Clara, now Mrs. Fred H. Cutkomp, of near this city, Elizabeth, now Mrs. S. G. Robertson, of Morning Sun; Robert Francis Johnston, of near this city. There are five grandchildren, Paul and Clara Robertson and Rexford, Robert and Burdette Johnston. For many years she was a consecrated member of the United Presbyterian church at Columbus City and always took a deep interest in the church services. Short funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the home of her daughter at Morning Sun. The body was then taken to Columbus City where services were held at 2 o'clock at the United Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. S. Boyd Johnson. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
