(Mrs. Johnston) Ida May Newell was born February 29, 1864 in Louisa County and died at her home near Elrick Junction, November 26, 1915, aged 51 years, 8 months and 27 days. Her early childhood was spent with her parents on the home farm near Fairview. She was educated in the public school of the county and later spent some time at the home of her sister, Elizabeth, in Lone Tree attending public school of that place. Later she became a teacher in the schools of the county and in this capacity, served very faithfully for a number of years. She was always considered an efficient and lovable instructer. On February 23, 1898 she was married to Edward S. Johnston of Columbus City, Indiana. She and her husband have always been residents of Louisa County and in 1904 removed to their farm near Elrick Junction. To them were born five children, one of whom Sherman Everett is now deceased having died at the age of three, in 1911. The following four children together with her husband remain to mourn their loss, Elsie Irene, Minnie May, William Newell and Merit Edward also six brothers and two sisters. Her health failing her in April of the present year she was taken to the hospital in Galesburg here she underwent an operation which was only partially successful. Because of distance, she was not a member of any church but early in life professed Christianity and all her life was interested in work of the Master. She was laid to rest in the Fairview cemetery Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rhea of the Newport circuit.
