Mrs. Thomas Manning, one of the best known residents of Cedar township, in Muscatine county near Letts, died at the Bellevue hospital at Muscatine, Monday afternoon at 4:50 o'clock. She had been ill for several years and had gone to the hospital at Muscatine last week for a second operation which it was hoped would restore her to health. Her immediate illness was of but one week's duration and a complication of diseases is assigned as the cause of her untimely demise. Mrs. Manning was born in Ross county, Ohio in 1856 and had resided in Cedar township for the past forty years. She was an active member of the United Brethern church of Cranston and was affiliated with the Rebekah lodge at Letts. She is survived by her husband and one sister, Mrs. Chas. Gipple, of near Letts. The remains were brought to the home near Letts Tuesday morning and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the United Brethern church at Cranston. Interment will be made in the church yard cemetery.
