One of the most prominent figures in the early history of Louisa county passed away in the death of John A. Kemp, which occurred at 11 o'clock on Saturday night at the home of his son, J. T. Kemp, near Grandview. His death was due to the ills attendant upon old age. Last spring his wife, who had been his companion through life for three score of years, preceded him in death and since her departure he gradually failed. Mr. Kemp lead an exemplary life. Affiliating at an early age with the Church of God he strictly followed the doctrines of that faith, his daily life being an exemplification of its teachings. He boasted on having abstained from tobacco or spirituous drinks during his entire life. He accepted the golden rule in his dealings with his fellow man and in his relations towards his family, friends and even with chance acquaintances.

The decedent is survived by three children who are J. T. Kemp, Mrs. Mary McGrew and Grant of Grandview. Five brothers, who are James of Fredonia, Will and Levi of Grandview and Frank of Taylor county, together with George of Riverside, California, also mourn his loss. Ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. C. L. Wilson, pastor of the Church of God. Interment was made in the Grandview cemetery.
