William H. Zion, a highly respected and well known resident of Louisa county, died at his home at Columbus City at 2 o'clock Monday morning after a very brief illness of only a few hours. The cause of his death was heart failure. William H. Zion was born in Des Moines county, April 6, 1845 and came to Louisa county in 1891 where he moved on a farm. Six years ago he retired from the farm activities and moved to Columbus City. He was always ready and willing to do his part in making the world happier and better. He became a christian in early life and united with the Primitive Baptist church in 1876.

He was first married in 1867 to Miss Eliza Young, who died in 1875. To them two children were born, Mrs. Frank Jones, of Burlington and one son who died in infancy. In 1878 Mr. Zion was married again to Miss Melinda Wright who survives to mourn the death of a kind husband and father. To them were born three sons: John Zion, of Columbus Junction, A. J. Zion of Osakis, Minnesota and Roy Zion, of Buffalo, New York and one daughter, Mrs. C. B. Gipple, of Columbus Junction. Mr. Zion, is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Cox, of Fairfield. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church at Columbus City Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock conducted by Rev. B. L. Nay, of Mediapolis. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
