Mrs. J. T. Kinmonth, one of the well known and highly esteemed women of this county, died at her home south of Columbus City Sunday morning after an illness of several months. Henrietta Atherton was born near Nauvoo, Illinois, June 23, 1845, where her parents first settled when they came west from Ohio. Here she spent her girlhood and grew to womanhood. She was married to John Taylor Kinmonth at Toulon, Illinois, June 20, 1865. They came to Iowa and located on a farm in Marshall township near Cairo in 1869 and moved to the farm south of Columbus City in 1880.

Two children were born to them, one daughter, Elizabeth, who is now Mrs. B. F. Shaum, of near this city and one son, Jesse Lyle, editor and proprietor of Asbury Park Evening Press in Asbury Park, New Jersey, both of whom were with her during her illness. She is also survived by her husband and the following brothers and sisters: Jesse S. Atherton, of Lafayette, Illinois, W. B. Atherton, of Macomb, Illinois, Rev. Charles Atherton, of Kansas City, Kansas, Frank Atherton, Waukomis, Oklahoma, Mrs. Minnie Winder, Macomb, Illinois, Mrs. Pauline Paxton, Victoria, Illinois, Mrs. Hester Kinmonth, Russell, Iowa. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church at Columbus City conducted by Rev. Fred A. Smith, of Cantril. Interment made in the Columbus City cemetery.
