Mrs. Edward Pretz died at her home three miles south of Columbus City, Monday August 31, 1914, after a very brief illness of less than two weeks. She was first taken ill Tuesday night, August 17. Her condition becoming very serious from the forming of an intestinal abscess. Amanda Hanft was the eldest daughter of Milton (deceased) and Catherine Hanft and was born in this county, January 17, 1875. Here she grew to womanhood and on the 12th of May, 1898, she was united in marriage to Edward D. Pretz. To them five children were born, four of whom with the father survive to mourn the departure of a true Christian mother. The children are Flossie, Veda, Milton and Guy. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. M. D. Hanft and by four brothers, S. L., Todd, John and Hale and two sisters, Mrs. B. H. Shearer and Laura, at home. She was devoted member of the United Brethren church at Columbus City. Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church at Columbus City Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by her pastor, Rev. L. H. Smith. Interment was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
