Mrs. Israel Hoover died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Hafleigh, at Columbus City, July 5th, 1914. Hetty Ellen Snyder was born in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, August 24, 1834 and at the time of her death she was 79 years, 10 months, and eleven days of age. She was married in 1856 to Israel Hoover and to this union were born five children, all of whom survive to mourn her death. Her husband died a number of years ago. Mrs. Hoover was converted at the age of 38 and united with the Evangelical church. In 1896 she moved to Columbus City and the following year she united with the United Brethren church of which she remained a faithful member until her death. She lived a consecrated Christian life. All of her children, a number of grandchildren and one sister, were present at the funeral services in addition to a large number of sorrowing friends. The surviving children are: three daughters, Mrs. Mary Hafleigh, of Columbus City, Mrs. Belle McCarthy, of Greene, Iowa, and Mrs. Ellen Titus, of Muscatine and two sons John of this city and Dan of Boone, Iowa. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, Miss Elizabeth Snyder, of Winfield. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church at Columbus City and in charge of Rev. L. H. Smith assisted by Rev. Wm Ballard, of Wayland. Interment was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
