This community was shocked Sunday morning when a telegram was received announcing the death of Charles F. Church, a former Columbus Junction boy at his home in Ft. Worth, Texas. The news of his death came as severe blow to his mother, as the father G. I. Church, died just a little over a year ago. During the Fourth he spent most of his day assisting his daughter in shooting firecrackers. Toward evening he took down an old revolver and after firing it off several times he went to clean it when it accidentally discharged, killing him instantly.

Charles Franklin Church was born in Columbus Junction October 31, 1880, died at Fort Worth, Texas, July 4, 1914, at the age of 33 years, 8 months and 3 days. "Chad", the name by which he was familiarly known, was a fine young man, being employed in his father's barber ship at this place several years before leaving for Texas eight years ago.

Upon moving to Fort Worth he purchased a barber shop, which he has conducted ever since. Left to mourn his sudden departure are his wife and two children, Ray and Evaline, his mother, Mrs. G. I. Church, of this place; six brothers Will of South Dakota; George of Muscatine; Noah, Harry, Joe and Louis, at home; five sisters, Mrs. D. R. Foster of Muscatine; Mrs. Care Rhodes of Lamoni, Ia.; Mrs. Lew Duncan of Cedar Rapids, Ia.: Mollie, is now visiting in California and Rema, at home. The remains arrived here on No. 12 Wednesday morning. The funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock at the Reformed church conducted by Rev. O. E. Ewing and were under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. Interment was made in the Indian Creek cemetery.
