Robert H. Edmondson was born in Blout county, Tennessee, Oct. 8, 1830 and died at the home of his son, M. R. Edmondson, near Columbus Junction, Louisa county, Iowa, April 9, 1914, aged 83 years, 6 months and 1 day. His parents David and Nancy (Scott) Edmondson, were natives of Virginia. They reared a family of five children of whom Robert was the last to fall asleep. In 1836 he moved with his parents to Indiana where he grew to manhood. He came west in 1855 and settled in Concord township where the following year he married to Catherine Reeder, daughter of Micajah and Nancy Sterling Reeder.

After his marriage Mr. Edmondson resided upon the farm which continued to be his home until four years ago when the infinities of age caused him to sell the farm which had been his home for nearly fifty years to his son-in-law, Thomas Carey. Since then he has made his home with his children. He is survived by four children, two daughters, Mrs. Nancy McDaniel and Mrs. Emma Carey and two sons, M. R and G. W. Edmondson, all of this county, seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Mr. Edmondson's failing health was very noticeable since the death of his oldest son, William of Decatur county some 18 months. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. S. Kight of Mitchellville, assisted by Rev. E. C. Brooks, at one o'clock Saturday at the home of his son, M. R. Edmondson. Interment in the Indian Creek cemetery.
