Henry Freeland Babbitt was born in Knox county, Ill., October 23, 1846, and died December 13, 1913, aged 67 years, 1 month and 20 days. He with his parents and five other children removed to Appanoose county, Iowa in 1868. In 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Alida Pettet. To this union were born nine children, all of whom are living and with the exception on one daughter, Mrs. Bangs, all were present at the funeral. The children are: Ralph E. Babbitt of Lone Tree; Mrs. J. R. Guthrie of West Liberty; Mrs. C. W. Bangs of Paulina; Glenn, Lloyd, near Cone; Lazelle, Verne and Grace at home.

In 1893, Mr. Babbitt with his family removed to Johnson county, near Lone Tree and in 1890, he moved to the farm where they now live. Mr. Babbitt is also survived by his aged mother, who lives at Seymour and two sisters, Mrs. Sidney Williams of Gothenburg, Neb and Mrs. E. A. Coleman, of Seymour, one brother, J. R. Babbitt, of Berryville, Ark.; his wife and nine children, named above and eighteen grandchildren. At the age of 23 he was converted and joined the Baptist church at Livingston. Several years ago, he and wife united with the Methodist church at Conesville. The funeral was held at the M. E. church at Conesville, Monday, December 15, 1913, where Rev. Bohn, assisted by Rev. Cogshell spoke many comforting words to the family. The remains were laid to rest in the Conesville cemetery.
