Mrs. Joseph C. Ross. Sarah A. Clouse was born June 21, 1837, near Lexington, Kentucky and died at her home in Columbus Junction, Iowa, at 9:30 P. M., Saturday, December 6, 1913, aged 76 years, 5 months and 15 days. At the age of three years she moved with her father and three older sisters to Indiana, settling near Crawfordsville, where she resided until her marriage to Joseph C. Ross, May 27, 1852. In 1865 they moved to Illinois and three years later came to Iowa, residing in and near Columbus Junction. To them were born thirteen children, her husband and five children preceding her to the great beyond. Those who are left to mourn the departure of a devoted mother are: Stephen D. Ross of Ainsworth, Iowa; Mrs. J. W. Christener of Aurora, Illinois; Mrs. Bert Marshall of Forest Lake, Minnesota; Mrs. Emmett Taft of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Paul C. Rose, Mrs. W. M. Sheridan, Mrs. Mary E. Turner and Mrs. F. A. Lewis of Columbus Junction. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. When a young girl she united with the M. E. church in Indiana but on coming to Iowa she joined the Evangelical church. Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. T. M. Balcoff assisted by Rev. C. E. Ewing. Interment at Columbus City.
