Miss Ella Layton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Layton, of this city, was found dead in her room at Des Moines, Monday evening, by her landlady, Mrs. J. W. Barrett. She was grasping a burnt match and it was supposed that she died from heart failure as she was attempting to light the gas jet. An autopsy revealed, however, that death was caused by a hemorrhage of the lungs. The remains were brought to this city Wednesday morning and taken to the home of her parents on West Hill where funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. M. Balcoff. Deceased was born at Fredonia, May 19, 1876 and grew to womanhood in this vicinity. For the past seven years she has been in Des Moines where she had an excellent position in a large department store. She is survived by her parents and three brothers, Will, Robert and Edgar. One sister and one brother preceded her in death. Interment was made in the cemetery at Fredonia.
