Levi M. Blake was born in Oakland township June 5, 1846 and died Aug 29, 1913. He had been confined to his bed twenty months and two days and during that time was quite a sufferer with the complicated ailments of old age. He enlisted in Co. K., 1st Iowa Inf., February 1863 and served as a soldier until the end of the war. On September 18, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth McNatton. There were no children born to this union but they have shared their home with three homeless children: James Blake of Dakota, Alma, who is still at home and Mrs. Lillie Meeker, who passed away last winter. Mr. Blake was converted 20 years ago. The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. A. W. McBlain of Columbus Junction took his text from Job 14:14. The remains were laid to rest in the Smith cemetery. Mr. Blake is survived by his aged wife, Alma and a brother, Leander Blake of Marshalltown.
