Mrs. Alice Hill, wife of Henry Hill was born Nov. 27, 1858 on the Forbes homestead 5 miles northwest of Conesville and died at her home August 13, 1913, at the age of 54 years, 8 months and 16 days. She was married to Henry Hill in Iowa City, December 23, 1875. To the union were born ten children, five of whom preceded her in death and five remain to mourn her loss. They are Mrs. Daisy L. Goldsberry of Emmons, Minn.; John II, Walter L., Joe H., and Norval D., at home. Mrs. Hill was deprived of her father at an early age, he having died February 27, 1864, the mother being left with a large family of small children.

After her marriage to Mr. Hill, they lived near the old homestead for six years, after which they moved to Kansas in 1881, living in that state ten years, moving back in November 1891 on the Forbes homestead which place they made their home until 1899, when they purchased the old Pursell homestead which place was her home until death. The surviving brothers and sisters are Wm. Forbes of Muscatine, Coll Forbes, of Twin Lakes, Minn., Fay Forbes, Mrs. Hannah Rife and Mrs. Tillie Morse, of Lone Tree and Ace Forbes of Conesville. She also leaves six grandchildren, besides many other relatives. Mrs Hill consecrated herself to the Christian faith over a quarter century ago. Three weeks ago they took her to Bellevue hospital in Muscatine but found no relief there and she was brought back home to die. Mrs. Hill's funeral was held in the Swank church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Hawk of Lone Tree. Interment in the Swank cemetery. The pall bearers were six of her nephews.
