William W. Orr, a prominent and pioneer resident of this county, passed away Friday. August 8, 1913, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nelson Duncan, at an advanced old age. William Walker Orr was born in Tennessee, April 17, 1826 and came to Iowa in 1851 locating on a farm northeast of this city which continued to be his home until 17 years ago he retired and moved to Washington. The following year he returned to the farm and later moved to Washington and about eleven years ago he went to Kansas where he made his home until three years ago he returned to this county and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Nelson Duncan, until the time of his death. He was married August 31, 1869 to Miss Sarah J. McCainey and to them ten children were born, one of whom died in infancy and the other, Mrs. Mary McKee, died a number of years ago. His wife preceded him in death March 12, 1898. The surviving children are Rufus, of Colorado, James of South Dakota, Mrs. Jennie Duncan, of this city, Francis J., of Montana, Mrs. Margaret Cone of Wichita, Kansas; Arthur, John and Earl of Buffalo, Kansas. Funeral services were held at the home in which he died Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. W. R. Lawrence. Interment was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
