William Alloway, son of Nelson and Anna Alloway, was born February 22, 1844, in this county and departed this life at his home in this city, Friday morning, February 14, 1913. Shortly after the war broke out, although still a very young man, he was filled with patriotic fervor and enlisted in January 1862 in Crocker's brigade of the Army of Tennessee. Aside from numerous minor engagement he was present at and took a prominent part in the terrific battles of Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, Iuka, Atlanta, Ezra church, Bentonsport and shared with Sherman in the March to the Sea. During one of the above engagements he was shot through the hip but as soon as he was able he was up and at it again and was honorably discharged in September 1865.

After the war he was then married to Miss Sarah James who departed this life in March 1904. To them were born three children, two of whom survive, one daughter, Mrs. Lena Barringer and one son, James Alloway both of this city. He was married to Mrs. Rosetta Wilson in August 1906. On account of his affliction in the war he was a constant sufferer. He has been in poor health all winter but only a week ago did he become so serious as to be confined to the house. The end finally came quickly and suddenly. In addition to the two children above mentioned he is also survived by his wife and ten grandchildren and one brother and one sister. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home conducted by Rev. A. W. McBlain. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
