Thomas H. Griffith, a prominent resident of Cotter and long a highly esteemed citizen of the Shellbark neighborhood, passed away at his home in Cotter, Friday afternoon, January 30, 1912. The cause of his death was pneumonia. Thomas Griffith was born in Wales November 7, 1827 and came to America at the age of 22, settling in New York state. Two years later he was married to Miss Esther Jones also a native of Wales. In 1881 he moved from New York to Louisa county and ten years later purchased a 230 acre farm where he lived until last fall when the farm was sold to his son, Hezekiah and Mr. and Mrs. Griffith moved to Cotter to the new home they had built in that city. Mr. Griffith was a devoted member of the Congregational church for more than fifty years. He is survived by his devoted wife and the following children: Mary, wife of W. B. Morse of New York state; David of Winfield; Daniel of Ainsworth; Maggie, wife of D. E. Owen of Cotter; Edward of this city; Hezekiah of the Shellbark neighborhood and Hettie at home. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A short private funeral service was held Monday afternoon after which the body was interred in the Cambrian cemetery.
