Mrs. Edwin Carter.

Mary Fletcher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Sargent was born in Caremont county, Ohio, July 22, 1834 and departed this life October 31, 1912. She came to Iowa when only four years old with her parents and has spent her life here. She was married to Edwin Carter March 22, 1859. To this union was born ten children. Three of whom, with the husband and father preceded her to the better land. Seven children and twenty-three grandchildren remain to mourn their loss. The children who remain are: Mrs. Minerva Albright, Danville; John E., Clovis, Cal.; Mrs. Olive Albright, Burlington; Mrs. Emma Huff, Columbus Junction; Mrs. Fredonia Boyce, Hagerman, New Mexico; Mrs. Bina Richey, New London; Nevada, Danville.

She was converted in early childhood and united with the Methodist church and in later years with the Separate Baptists. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. W. McBlain, Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Huff where she had passed away. She was then taken to Danville where funeral services were held on Saturday and she was laid to rest in the Carter cemetery on the old homestead.
