The remains of Mrs. J. M. Crum were brought from Newton, Kansas, Friday and taken to the J. H. Thompson home at Letts where funeral services were held that afternoon and interment made in the Letts cemetery. Mary Francis Thompson was born in Cass county, Illinois, July 27, 1842 and died Oct. 23, 1912, at Newton, Kan., aged 70 years, 2 months, 26 days. At the age of five she came with her parents to this county where she grew to womanhood. She was married to J. M. Crum, February 14, 1865 and was the mother of three children, one son, S. A. Crum, of Newton, Kan., surviving her. In 1874 they moved from this county and since then have made their home in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. She is also survived by her husband and four sisters, Mrs. Wm. Hoopes of Muscatine, Mrs. Jeanie Harvey of Seward, Neb., Mrs. Azalia Weber of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. E. R. Lacey of this city; two brothers, J. H. Thompson of Letts and A. S. Thompson of this city and also by two grandchildren. At the age of 24 she was converted to Christ and united with the U. B. church with her husband. Since then she has lived in the faith of Christ. At the time of her death she was a member of the Congregational church.
