Frederick Lorenzen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, March 6, 1824 and died at his home in Columbus City, Iowa, November 2, 1912, aged 88 years, 7 months and 26 days. He served in the standing army of his country three years and fought in the war between Schleswig- Holstein and Denmark in 1864. He came to America in 1869, spent one year at Newark, New Jersey and then came to Columbus City, Ia., where he has since made his home. His sister came to America with him and died two years after their arrival. She rests beside him in the Columbus City cemetery. He was never married. His life was spent in semi-seclusion, and but few people knew him intimately. His passing was without pain or struggle. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the M. E. church at Columbus City, conducted by Rev. F. A. Smith and burial was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
