The death of Joseph Girard occurred at his home with his son, L. F. Girard, near Bard, Monday of last week. Mr. Girard was born in France, March 19, 1826. Came to this country in 1842. He attended school for awhile at Cape Girardean and St. Louis. He taught school in Ft. Madison and Burlington for many years. Was in mercantile business, for awhile, in Burlington; afterwards in Wapello. In 1866 he was married to Miss Mary Dalmase, a sister we believe of the late Victor Dalmase, who died a number of years ago, the result of an accident, near his home, near the Dan McKay place. Mr. Girard was a very quiet and unostentatious man, and a good citizen. He was a Roman Catholic and was buried from St. Paul's church, Burlington, on Wednesday, September 18.
