David D. Mapes dead. Although Mr. Mapes had been in feeble health for some time, his death Friday morning, September 27, at 4 o'clock, was entirely unexpected. His own family could scarcely realize the fact. He had made his home in Fredonia less than two years, but in that time he had attracted to himself many friends. He was a kind hearted, congenial old gentleman and a Christian as well. David D. Mapes was born in Pen Yan, New York, July 17, 1825. Besides his wife he leaves two brothers, one of Genos, Nebraska and one who address is unknown and one sister in Pen Yan, who survive him. He was a private in the 44th New York infantry during the Civil war and was a member of Todd post No. 115, G. A. R. of this place. He was married to Mrs. S. E. Jones of Fredonia October 30, 1905. His funeral took place from his home Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, in charge of the G. A. R. post, funeral sermon preached by Rev. R. D. Pool of the Methodist church. Interment followed in the Fredonia cemetery.
