She was born in Harrison county, Ohio, November 10, 1835 and came to Iowa with her parents when a child. They settled on a farm near Crawfordsville and this was her home until she was married to Wm. A. Johnston, April 29, 1855, when she went with her husband to the farm west of Columbus City, where they lived until Mr. Johnston's death September 16, 1902. To them were born five sons and three daughters of whom four sons died young. Those living are R. N. Johnston, Mrs. Luella Duncan and Mrs. Grace Robertson all in or near Columbus City and Mrs. Emma Tedford of Lenox. She also leaves one brother, John W. Maxwell and two sisters, Mrs. J. B. McCullough and Mrs. G. T. Auld, all of Washington. Mrs. Johnston had made her home with her youngest daughter, Grace, since her marriage to Thos. Robertson in March, 1903 and had gone out only a week ago to spend a few days with her son when she was taken worse and died. The funeral will be held at the R. N. Johnston home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Marshall. Interment at Columbus City cemetery.
