Mary Ellen Kauffman died at her home near Columbus Junction, Sunday, April 7, 1907, at 8:20 in the morning. She was the daughter of the late Asher Dennis and was born at the Dennis home in Union township, October 23, 1852. She married Joseph Kauffman February 12, 1873. Eight children were born to them, five of whom, with the husband, remain to mourn her departure. The living children, Clinton, of Gladwin; Joseph, in Nebraska, George, Maude and William at home. All were here to attend the funeral which occurred at the late home Tuesday, at 1 o'clock p. m. Besides husband and children she leaves three brothers and four sisters. These are James Dennis, of Gladwin; John, in Nebraska; William, in Gladwin; Lucy Hayden, in Washington; Sarah Billtoft, of Nebraska; Elizabeth Eshelman, of Muscatine and Nancy Hahn, of Illinois City, Illinois. Mrs. Kauffman was a member of the Methodist church for many years; formerly was a member of the Church of God. She was laid to rest beside friends in the Tennessee cemetery.
