Mrs Robert Metcalf died at her home in Columbus City, Friday, March 1, 1907 after only a week's sickness with pleura-pnumonia. Her maiden name was Nancy Jane Baker. She was born near Albany, New York, November 18, 1849. She came with her parents to Columbus City when nine years old. She was married to Robert Metcalf. To this union four children were born. These were William, who lives in the west; Nellie, now Mrs. Charles Bretz, of Mt. Pleasant; Carrie, now Mrs. J. C. H. Light, of Muscatine; and Charles, who died in infancy. She leaves ten grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her loss. Mrs. Metcalf suffered greatly during her short sickness, but she bore it all with christian fortitude. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Monday, March 4, at 2 o'clock, p. m., conducted by her son-in-law, Rev. J. C. H. Light, assisted by Rev. J. C. Marshall, of U. P. church and Rev. A. E. Hursh, of the U. B. church.
