Henry Bretz was born in the town of Planig, Germany, December 10, 1827 and grew to manhood there. Came to America when a young man, and first settled in Pennsylvania, afterwards coming to Louisa county which continued his home until death, November 25, 1906. He was never married, but made his home with his brother, the late Peter Bretz until his death, after that with the widow, Mrs. Nissin. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Germany. after coming to America, he united with the U. B. church and continued an active worker in that organization until the end. He was a kind unobtrusive christian man who possessed the respect and confidence of all. He was buried in the Columbus City cemetery from the U. B. church Tuesday, November 27. Services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. A. E. Hursh.
