William H. Prettyman was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, April 25, 1840 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. M. Carpenter, November 24, 1906. Mr. Prettyman was twice married, his second wife and three children by the first, survive him. The wife makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ed Rawhauser. The children living are one son, L. C., who lives in Oakland and two daughters, Mrs. John Edwards and two daughters, Mrs. H. M. Carpenter, of Nebraska. Mr. Prettyman was a member of Co. F, 25th Iowa infantry in the war of the rebellion and was a quiet but exemplary soldier. He had the respect of all his neighbors, as he was known to be an honest man.
