Mrs. Overholt passes away. At 7 o'clock last Sunday morning Mrs. Overholt, wife of Dr. D. W. Overholt, died at her home near this place, the cause of death being heart failure. While her health and strength had seemed to be failing for some months she was ill only about one hour and her sudden death came as a terrible shock to her family as well as the community. She was a daughter of Judge Samuel M. Latta and was born at Grandview, Iowa, March 7, 1843. Her father afterwards moved to Muscatine where he practiced law and from there he removed with his family to Leavenworth, Kansas, where for years he was prominent and influential citizen.

Here the subject of this sketch, Isabelle Latta, was married to Dr. D. W. Overholt, April 21, 1867, having met him while a student at the Grandview academy. To them seven children were born, two of whom, Robert William and Frank Warren, died in infancy. The remaining five are: Dr. J. L. of Columbus Junction, Mrs. Rowle H. Latta of Paton, Iowa, Samuel M. of Muscatine, Mrs. Nellie Daniels of Columbus City and Roscoe of Chicago. They were all in attendance at the funeral, which was held at the home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Arthur Long of Burlington. Mrs. Overholt had been a devout Christian from early girlhood and a member of the Christian church at Columbus City for more than forty years. She was beautiful in person and character, gentle, affectionate and kind and gave her life to the welfare of her family with a devotion seldom equaled. There was a short service at the grave, prayer and scripture reading and a hymn and all that was mortal of this loved woman was tenderly laid to rest in the Columbus City cemetery.
