Finley D. Cross was born in Holmes county, Ohio, June 7, 1845. When a mere youth he came to Louisa county, Iowa with his parents. He afterward moved to Missouri, and in 1872 was united in marriage to Miss Annetta Parker, of Carrolton, Missouri and who had lived two years to cheer him with her presence when the dear lord called her home. In 1876 he was again married to Miss Parlee Parker, a sister of his former wife. To this union two children were born; a daughter, who died in infancy and William W., of Kansas City, who with his mother, tenderly and lovingly cared for his father in his last sickness. He also leaves three brothers; D. W. of Wapello; T. B. of Grandview and J. I., of Humbolt, Nebraska, besides many other relatives and friends.

Our departed friend's last sickness was of a very strange nature and baffled the skill of four physicians. He was taken sick last November with a severe pain in his left side. The doctor was called but could do nothing to relieve the misery from which he continued to suffer four months. He was converted in 1872 and united with the Presbyterian church and has lived a Christian life until the Lord called him home March 26, 1906. The remains were brought to Columbus Junction and taken to the home of his niece, Mrs. C. B. Clark. The funeral was held at Pleasant Grove Bethel, conducted by Rev. Hammond, of Bard. Interment in the Indian Creek cemetery.
