John Gardner died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gardner, at this place about 8 o'clock Tuesday evening, September 26. He had been ill for six weeks with malaria and rheumatism and some complications involving his hear. He was born in Columbus Junction, attended school here and spent most of his life here. He was twenty years of age last April.

He was a good boy, kind in the home, honest, industrious and every way to be depended upon. He began work for the Rock Island at this place about three years ago and some time later was given a position of trust and responsibility by the express company at Cedar Rapids, where he remained until he was taken sick a few weeks ago and came home hoping that rest and the tender care of the home folks would restore him to health. But it was not to be and he passed away most unexpectedly and suddenly. He leaves father and mother, one brother, Garry, and four sisters, Gertie, Dot, Helen and Ina. His brother who is in the west has been telegraphed for and will be here for the funeral which will be held at the home Friday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. C. Kendrick.
