The people of this county have reason to deplore the death of George W. Hill, which occurred at his home in Elm Grove township this Thursday morning, May 4 at 2:15. Mr. Hill was born in Perry county, Ohio, April 3, 1851, consequently was 54 years, one month and one day old at his death. He came with his father, the late Adam Hill and family to Iowa in an early day and loved the most of his life in Morning Sun and Elm Grove townships.

Mr. Hill was twice married: first to Miss Francis Bemis, a daughter of A. F. Bemis, now of Des Moines. The second wife was Alice Wells, the widow of Albert Bemis. She with six children are called upon to mourn the death of a kind and affectionate husband and father. The children are Mrs. Tarr, of North Dakota, a child by the first wife and Mrs. Edith Bisher, of Elm Grove, Misses May and Ruth, and Howard and Marsh, all at home. Ethel, a daughter by the first wife, died in Des Moines, three and a half years ago.

Mr. Hill was for many years a member of the Methodist church and was an earnest Christian. He will be missed in the church, in the community and on the fair board of which he was a member for years. He was a public spirited man and good citizen whose loss will be deeply felt. The funeral will occur at Prairie Chapel church, at 10 o'clock, conducted we suppose, by his pastor, Rev. Kendrick. The burial will be in the Spring Run cemetery. Mr. Hill had not been in rugged health all winter, but seemed in a fair way toward recovery when pneumonia set in and in his enfeeble condition he was not able to rally. The oldest son, Howard, lies critically ill with the same disease.
