Lewis B. Ritter was born in Virginia, during the month of January in the year 1849. He came to Louisa County Iowa about thirty-four years ago, and after a short residence here was married to Catherine Wagner, daughter of Deeter and Levina Wagner. He and his companion have lived in the Cedar Bethel neighborhood all their married life, with the exception of one year. This home has been blessed by the presence of three boys, all of whom are living at home. Two relatives besides the immediate family reside near here one in Letts and the other at Wapello. Mr. Ritter has ever been a loving husband, a kind father, and a very much respected neighbor. The sickness which resulted in death began to be apparent about two years ago but he did not realize the seriousness of the malady until last fall, but he was not confine to his bed more than three weeks prior to his death. He passed away quietly Tuesday morning, April 25, at 5 o'clock. Funeral services were held at Cedar Bethel, conducted by the undersigned. Interment took place in Cedar Bethel cemetery. A. B. Cedar Bethel, May 1- After an illness of over a year, Mr. Lew Ritter passed away last Tuesday morning at 5 o'clock, leaving a wife and three boys, John, Harvey and Walter, to mourn the loss of one who will be greatly missed by his loved ones and his host of friends. He was past fifty-three years of age. Besides his family he leaves two cousins, Mrs. Frank Idle of Letts and Mrs. Frank Graham of Wapello. A short funeral sermon was preached at Cedar Bethel by Rev. A. B. Chamberlin on Friday morning at 10 o'clock and was attended by a large number of friends who looked for the last time upon the face of another of the good fathers who have gone to their reward. The interment took place in the Cedar Bethel cemetery, the pall bearers being Will Griffin, Chas. Estle, Jas. Small, John Littrel, Zach Idle and H. Westbrook.
