Mrs. Sarah Jane Warnstaff departed this life at her home in Oakland township at 2 o'clock a. m., last Saturday morning, February 25, 1905. She was born in Des Moines county, Iowa, near Burlington, almost sixty-seven years ago. She had been married twice and was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom survive her and all of whom were with her during her last illness.

Her first husband was Jackson Stillwell, by whom she had three children, of whom two John and Mary Delilah George, survive her. The six surviving Warnstaff children are Josephine Wall of Oakland township; Chas. W. of Muscatine county; Frank W. who lived at home with his mother; Effie Diller of Concord township and Delcie Diller of Fredonia. Besides these she leaves an aged father, Elijah Manley, almost ninety years of age, and many other relatives and friends. Her husband, Samuel Warnstaff, died about thirteen years ago.

Mr. Warnstaff was one of the very earliest settlers in Louisa county. He was born in Ross county, Ohio, in 1825 and came with his parents to Iowa in 1833. They settled below Wapello on the east side of the river. "Warnstaff slough" five miles below that place received its name from the family. The late Mrs. Samuel Cheney was a sister. She will be remembered by citizens of Jefferson township. The funeral services were held at 11 o'clock on Sunday at the Oakland church conducted by rev. T. B. DeVore, with interment at the Beauchamp cemetery.
