John Locke Thompson was born in Lima county, Ohio, March 29, 1853 died in Union Township, this county, April 12, 1902, aged 49 years. Came to Iowa at a very early age at the age of 18 he went to Smith county, Kansas where he resided 20 years returning to Iowa. For the last five years his home was in Union township.

He was twice married. His first wife was a Miss J. Carmel, who with one child, was buried in Kansas. He afterwards married Miss Susan Blanford. To this union were born seven children. Four of these with the wife, an aged mother, three brothers and two sister survive him.

His death was a sad one, as he left his home in the morning to go to his work. At eight o'clock the accident happened that cost him his life and at 7 in the evening he was dead. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. Wilson, of Columbus City, at 2 o'clock Tuesday, at the home of his sister, Mrs. E. S. Thompson. His body was laid to rest in the Columbus City cemetery.
