Ellen Simons Adye was born in state of Virginia, May 15, 1825, and died at her home in Columbus City, Sunday, April 13, 1902. In her very early childhood she moved with her parents to Huntington, Spencer county, Indiana, where on the 15th of September, 1843, she was untied in marriage to Jason W. Adye, of Adyeville, Indiana. In 1854 they came to Louisa county, Iowa settling on a farm in the neighborhood of Louisa center, where they resided until March, 1893, when they moved to Columbus City.

Mrs. Adye was the mother of eleven children, three of whom survive her viz: Mrs. Harriet V. Cochran, of Iowa City; Mrs. Laura Day, of Fredonia and Mrs. Dora Lanberson, of Paonia, Colorado. She also leaves one sister, about 90 years old, residing at Villisca, Iowa. She was a devoted wife and mother, a true neighbor and friend, as many recipients of her kind acts could testify.

She was a constituent member of the Louisa Center Baptist church, in 1893 transferring her membership to the Columbus City Baptist church, of which she remained a faithful member until death called her to the reward of faithful life, passing away at the ripe age of 76 years, 10 months, and 28 days. Her husband died July 22, 1900, also a Sabbath day, at the age of 81 years. Her funeral took place at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Langson, at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, April 15. Rev. Ballard, of the U. B. church, assisted in the solemn services. The body was laid to rest in the Columbus City cemetery.
