Elizabeth Gordon was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, Jun 3, 1821, and died at her home on Conesville, Iowa, September 4, 1901, aged 80 years and 3 months. She was married to John McCullough April 22, 1843. To this union nine children were born, eight sons and one daughter. One son, James, died in September, 1892. The other were all at her bedside at her death. Besides her children, she leaves 18 grand children and five great grandchildren. In her early life she became a member of the Presbyterian church at her old home in Jackson township, Coshocton county, Ohio. In the year 1865 she, with her family and the family of Alex McCurdy, emigrated overland to Orono, Muscatine county, Iowa. Not finding the church of her choice, she and her husband joined the Reformed church at Conesville the following winter. Mr. McCullough died in 1888 since which time her home has been with her daughter Maggie. By the death of Mother McCullough the home is broken up, the church has lost a faithful member and the community an example of uprightness and right doing. But we morn not as those who have no hope. May her children and friends all meet her in heaven. The pall bearers were her eldest six sons; William, George, David, John, Albert and Alex. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Orr of Columbus Junction; interment in Conesville cemetery beside her husband.
