Bard, July 26 -Our neighborhood has been visited by the angel of death twice since our last letter was written. Henry Hartman an old gentleman, who has lived here for 40 years past had a paralytic stroke about noon July 21, and remained speechless and in great agony until Saturday evening at 6:30 when he breathed his last. Mr. Hartman had been in poor health for a year, but was able to ride to Wapello on Monday before his death. He leaves a large family of children to mourn his death. Three children, Frank, of Taylor county; Will of Muscatine, and Celia, who lived at home, were at his bedside when the end came. Services were conducted at the German reformed church at this place after which the remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the Wapello cemetery, who died a few years ago.
