John Haschar, Sr., one of the oldest citizens of Grandview township died on May 3. The funeral was held at the German Congregational church in Grandview, on last Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Jacob Fath of Muscatine. The deceased was one of the charter members of the above named church, which he helped to organize some 35 years ago. He was born in Alsace, France, on June 12, 1812, and married to Catherine Mourer of the same place in 1834; they emigrated to this country in 1840, first settling near Buffalo, New York., there remaining till 1854, when they moved to Iowa, settling on a farm two miles south of Grandview where they lived ever since. He was well and favorably known in this vicinity as a quiet and peaceful citizen. He leaves a widow and three girls and two boys to mourn his loss.
